Houston residents react to ICE shooting

North America;United States

Residents of Houston, Texas, are outraged after a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent fatally shot Mexican national and Houston resident Lorenzo Salgado Araujo on July 7.

The agency alleges that Salgado, 52, rammed an ICE vehicle and attempted to run over an officer with his car after he was stopped as part of a “targeted operation”.

Salgado’s family contested ICE’s account at a press conference on July 9 and said that the undocumented Houston father of three was in the process of getting a work permit.

Salgado was a construction worker who lived in Houston for 35 years.

According to his family, he was on his way to pick up his construction crew before ICE stopped him.

Salgado was fatally shot in Houston’s Magnolia Park, a historically Hispanic neighborhood known as “Little Mexico.”
