German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has said he doesn’t want the U.S. to interfere in German elections, in response to a question about the U.S. State Department releasing $5 million in grants to support what the Trump administration describes as “Western civilization heritage in Europe”.
Merz was asked by a reporter if he thought the new U.S. program adds up to political interference.

U.S. National Security Strategy has also said that President Trump desires to boost “patriotic European parties”.
