The 2026 FIFA World Cup concluded after 104 matches across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, marking the first tournament with 48 teams and setting new attendance records. While the expanded competition delivered memorable matches and surprise performances, it was also overshadowed by off-field controversies. 

Visa restrictions affected some players, officials, and fans, while FIFA faced criticism over its decision to overturn the suspension of U.S. player Folarin Balogun after intervention from President Donald Trump. Rising ticket prices also drew complaints. 

Despite the challenges, nearly seven million fans attended the tournament, making it the best-attended FIFA World Cup in history.
