Keiko Fujimori was sworn in as Peru’s first democratically elected female president, marking the return of one of the country’s most influential and divisive political dynasties.

During her inauguration, she pledged to uphold the constitution and govern responsibly as she begins a five-year term. Supporters celebrated her victory, while protesters denounced her presidency, reflecting deep political divisions following her narrow election win.

The ceremony was attended by several conservative Latin American leaders, underscoring a broader rightward shift in the region. Fujimori now faces the challenge of governing a polarized nation. CGTN’s Dan Collyns reports from Lima.
