The International AIDS Conference is being held in Latin America for the first time, bringing thousands of scientists, policymakers, activists and health officials to Rio de Janeiro.

Discussions have focused on concerns over cuts to global HIV funding, unequal access to new prevention drugs and the affordability of long-acting HIV treatments.

Brazilian officials criticized pricing policies that they say limit access to lifesaving medicines across the Global South, while UNAIDS warned funding reductions could reverse decades of progress against HIV/AIDS. Participants say expanding access to innovation remains critical to ending the epidemic. CGTN’s Lucrecia Franco reports from Rio de Janeiro.
