Smoke from Canada's intense wildfire season, drifting across the border into the United States, prompted criticism from some American politicians who say Canada isn't doing enough to manage its forests. 

The comments have added a new point of tension to an already strained relationship between the two countries. But wildfire experts say the science tells a more complicated story.
