Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson said on Monday, August 10, that Tehran has no reason to be concerned about the new defence pact between Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Pakistan.

The official added that regional states were increasingly recognising that security cannot be “bought” from outside powers, arguing that the agreement reflects a shift towards greater regional self-reliance.

The three countries signed the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement on August 7. Turkiye's foreign minister said that the pact is not directed against Iran or any other country, but is intended as a broader commitment to mutual security.
