Trade talks between the United States and Canada collapsed Friday, Aug. 21, triggering 50% tariffs on roughly $20 billion of Canadian goods — a sharp reversal days after both sides signaled a deal was close.

Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney says the relationship between the two countries has fundamentally changed, and retaliatory tariffs are set to take effect Sept. 8.
