Peru has cut diplomatic ties with Iran after more than 50 years, just weeks after President Keiko Fujimori took office.
Peru says the decision is tied to Iran’s role in Middle East conflicts, its nuclear program and threats to trade through the Strait of Hormuz. But the move also comes as Fujimori pushes for closer ties with the U.S. and President Trump pressures countries to isolate Iran.
