U.S. President Donald Trump used his UN General Assembly address to promote a new name and approach for artificial intelligence, saying the U.S. government would begin referring to AI as “super intelligence”, or SI. 

Trump argued that the term artificial intelligence understates the technology’s capabilities and rejected calls for broad international regulation, saying the United States should focus on maintaining its technological lead while avoiding rules he believes could slow development. 

His remarks followed his announcement of an “AI Force” and plans for an AI “czar,” as his administration seeks to emphasize economic growth and U.S. competitiveness while relying largely on existing government authorities to address potential harms.
