In the immediate aftermath, Israel declared war against Hamas and began a rapid bombing campaign in the Gaza Strip.
Over 74,000 Palestinians have been killed in the three-year onslaught, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, though the number might be much higher. Hunger and health continue to be a struggle within the enclave.
And while life has become increasingly fragile for Palestinians, Israel has increased its security apparatus. Despite a peace deal signed in October 2025, Israel has not completely let up its military operations in Gaza.
