A strengthening El Niño is expected to intensify in Latin America, bringing heavy rainfall and record sea surface temperatures that will impact agricultural production and water availability across the Americas in the coming months.

The consequences are expected to be serious for rural communities already experiencing poverty, food insecurity, and limited access to water.
