Mission 2020: Poverty Alleviation

The challenges of Poverty Alleviation have been compounded due to Covid-19. Stressed lines of critical aid have become more strained placing families at increased risk. Opportunities for education, housing, and jobs are even more scarce. Advances in infrastructure and healthcare have been put on hold and are in danger of slipping backward.

Day-1    Theme – Shared Experience and Global Cooperation

In the first of two programs we look at inequality and other root causes of poverty, witness efforts to lift people up, and discuss the global pandemic’s impact on poverty alleviation. We’ll hear from global experts, a Nobel laureate and those wrestling with its consequences.

Tens of millions have lost their jobs, their income, their homes and healthcare. Income inequality is rising as more and more people slip into penury. How can this trend be reversed? What are the solutions? Is technology the answer? We’ll examine ideas to help lift people out of poverty.

Rise Up: Poverty Alleviation

The United Nations’ goal to end global poverty by 2030 has never been at greater risk. After decades of substantial progress, the global COVID-19 pandemic now threatens to derail the colossal humanitarian effort. However, all hope is not yet lost. Thanks to the efforts of those offering services from elderly and childcare, to farming collectives and high-tech companies; efforts are still underway to end poverty.
