Speakers across the globe calls for joint efforts on poverty alleviation

CGTN launched its first Global Action Initiative special program with a focus on poverty alleviation.

Global Action Initiative is dedicated to addressing the world's most pressing issues through mutual understanding, showcasing positive outcomes, and offering example solutions to help all people from small communities to sustained global change.

The first day of the event included multiple speaker from organizations such as the China Media Group, United Nations, IMF and a former Nobel Peace Laureate. The speakers addressed the multiple topics related to global poverty including global hunger, climate change and China’s successful efforts to lift large portions of its population out of poverty.

The second day of the event included 2 keynote speakers, Zhang Jun, the Chinese Ambassador to the UN who discussed China’s efforts and successes in poverty alleviation and Amir Mahmoud Abdulla, the Deputy Executive Director, World Food Programme who discussed the challenges his organization faces in the wake of COVID-19.
